Stucco almost complete

Well, Dad, Melissa and I finished the dark color coat of the stucco on Tuesday. The only things left to do to the garage are the light color coat around the doors and the front gutter. And of course electrical. That has been an learning experience and a life lesson all rolled into one. Maybe we will just stay in the dark.
Aunt Jean let us borrow her cart to move water and my cousin Tammy and her husband Tony helped us out with some rebar and a trailer so that is one more step done, again I say Thank God for Family!
Our Brother in Christ Kenny and his crew got the basement footer started yesterday so we are moving forward on the house also. Kenny is the best around so we should have an awesome footer by next week sometime.

Done with dirt

It should read "Done with dirt, for a little while" I am afraid the backhoe will return soon. I guess that is a good thing though. That means we are moving forward. For now we are done with the hole in the ground. Melissa and Uncle George (with Mara's help) finished the dirt work the day after memorial day. I was at work but from what I hear my dad moved as much dirt with a shovel and wheelbarrow as they did with the backhoe. At least that is what Melissa said.
As soon as we get the permit Kenny, our super concrete guy will pour the footers and we will be running again. The goal is to have the outside stuff done by the time the cold weather hits. We will see, we are already behind and are still having trouble in some areas.
The fact that I keep getting sick isn't helping. I was down again last weekend, on my birthday and anniversary no less.
The other thing slowing me down is my new job, more on that after it becomes official on July 1.

Dig It!!!

Work on the house has officially begun this weekend. My Uncle George and Melissa have been digging a big hole which will soon be the site of our basement. Thanks to some great lessons from Uncle George, Melissa is going to be a pro soon. I guess I better not mess with a lady who can handle a backhoe.
Dad and I were a little bored watching them dig so we decided to put the rock on the front of the garage. We would have finished but the generator and the tile saw didn't like each other. We should get things wrapped up soon and we will be ready to move on. Thank God for Family!!!

Garage Update

Dad, Melissa, Mara and I have been working when possible. The garage is almost finished. We have some more stucco to do but we may have to wait out the rainy season. Uncle George showed us how to do the finish and the more we practice the better it gets. The eves are done. Besides the stucco, rock and gutters the only problem is the electrical. We may get that done some day. No worries.
Aside from the water falling from the sky we were also blessed with a water tap. We didn't expect to be able to get city water so this was a real blessing.
We plan on digging the foundation for the house this weekend if the weather is good enough. Say a prayer!!!

Salbato Construction returns

It has been a awhile but we haven't been on vacation or anything. The weather did slow us down a bit and we have been waiting for a few materials but all-in-all we are still moving along. Melissa and her dad got the doors finished. My dad and I finished the lathe and we all got the "Pop-outs" ready to stucco.
The weather this weekend was ugly so we didn't start the stucco till today. We got going at about 11am with melissa's dad churning out bags for us. After we struggled to get the wall the way we wanted I called in the pros. Uncle George and Craig came to the rescue and jumped right in to help. They gave us some lessons and after some practice we will hopefully become pros ourselves.
Praise the Lord that the weather was perfect today. No wind and hot, but not too hot. Awesome. We got more than half of the first coat on today and with some luck it will be done tomorrow.
Next up is the finish coat. Maybe this weekend. If it doesn't snow that is.

Still working

We've had a few delays, mostly thanks to the snow storm that moved through the area last week, but we are still making progress. The wire is about 80% done and we are getting ready to start putting the rock and stucco on.
Melissa's brother came down and amazed me with his knowledge of all things electrical. He gave us a big head start with the electrical and hopefully soon we can give the generator a rest.
Dad came by this afternoon and we finished the wire on the front. Melissa and her dad got the doors almost all the way up last week. It is nice to have it sealed in.
As for the house we are still making decisions. Pray that we can get a water tap from the city. We are planning to go to the meeting tomorrow night. We didn't think we would have a chance to get one but because of the wet winter they may open up a few.

Stucco it is!

It took us awhile to decide on what we wanted for an exterior look. I have always liked the look of stucco so I was pleased when we put the numbers together and decided we just couldn't beat the price/look of stucco. We still aren't certain of colors but we have a couple of days to decide that. For now we have started to put the paper and wire on the building. We also got the "Man-Door" installed. (I am sick of that term already) The garage doors came in at direct bye last week and are next on our to-do list.
